Ask ChatGPT “how did I sleep this week?” and it can only guess. Connect it to Voke, and it answers from your actual nights, from your Apple Watch, your iPhone, or your Fitbit or Pixel Watch through Google Health.
ChatGPT adds outside services like Voke through developer mode on the web. Setup takes about five minutes, and you choose on your phone exactly what ChatGPT can read. Here’s how, what it can see, and how to cut it off.
What you can ask ChatGPT
- “Summarize my day: sleep, activity and anything unusual.”
- “Plot my time asleep for the last two weeks and tell me which nights were short.”
- “What did my heart rate do overnight on Sunday?”
- “Did I walk more this month than last?”
- “How did my partner sleep last night?” This works only if they share with you and have let your AI see it.
Before you start
You’ll need:
- Voke on your iPhone, with Apple Health or Google Health connected under Sources.
- “Use AI features” turned on in your Voke account.
- ChatGPT on the web, on a plan with developer mode. Developer mode is web only, and OpenAI says Pro accounts get read and fetch tools there, which is all Voke offers (OpenAI). The same guide lists the other plans that have it.
Keep your phone nearby to approve the connection.
Step 1: Copy Voke’s address
In Voke, open the AI tab, tap the settings button, and choose ChatGPT under AI apps. Voke shows the steps for ChatGPT, with a button to copy Voke’s address:
https://mcp.voke.co/mcp
Step 2: Turn on developer mode
In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings, then Security and login, and turn on developer mode.
Step 3: Add Voke as a plugin
- Open Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins) and choose the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
- Name it Voke and paste the address under Connection.
- Choose OAuth for authentication if ChatGPT asks, read the warning, and choose I understand and want to continue.
- Choose Create as a plugin.
OpenAI renamed apps to plugins this year and still moves these menus around. If a button isn’t where we say, OpenAI’s guide to connecting a custom MCP server has the current path.
Step 4: Approve on your phone
ChatGPT opens a Voke page with a QR code and a 6-letter code. Scan the QR code with your iPhone camera, or tap Enter a code in Voke and type it in.
Voke then asks “Connect ChatGPT?” with a switch for each kind of data ChatGPT asked for. Turn off anything you’d rather keep to yourself, then tap Allow.
The page lapses after 10 minutes. If it does, start again from ChatGPT.
Step 5: Send the first prompt
Back in Voke, the ChatGPT steps now include a short first message that asks for a plain summary of your day. Tap Open a chat to start a ChatGPT chat with it filled in, or copy it. To use Voke in any other chat, type @ and pick Voke.
What ChatGPT can and can’t see
- It can read, and nothing else. ChatGPT can’t add, change or delete anything in Voke.
- Only what you switched on. Turn off workouts, and it can’t read your workouts at all.
- A month at a time. Each request covers up to 31 days, or 14 days of minute-by-minute data. ChatGPT can ask again for earlier stretches.
- Other people only with their permission. Your partner’s nights are only included if they’ve let your AI see them. Sharing health data without oversharing explains how.
On Free, Go, Plus and Pro, OpenAI may train on what ChatGPT reads from connected apps if “Improve the model for everyone” is on. You can turn it off under Settings, then Data controls (OpenAI). Whatever ChatGPT reads stays in that chat under OpenAI’s terms, so delete the chat there if you want it gone.
ChatGPT’s own health space
In the US, ChatGPT also has a Health space that can read Apple Health from your iPhone and some medical records (OpenAI). Voke is a good fit alongside it or instead of it: it brings in Fitbit and Pixel Watch data through Google Health, counts each night once even when you wear two devices, and can include people who share with you, with their permission.
How to disconnect ChatGPT
- Straight after connecting, press and hold the notification Voke sends and tap Disconnect.
- Any time, open AI apps in Voke and tap Disconnect next to ChatGPT. Its access ends on its next request.
- Everything at once, turn off “Use AI features” in your Voke account.
To tidy up ChatGPT’s side, open Settings, then Plugins, pick Voke and choose Disconnect from its menu (OpenAI). Disconnecting in Voke is what actually ends the access. A connection lasts 90 days, then ChatGPT asks you to approve it again.
Prefer another assistant? Use any AI assistant with your health data, safely lists them all. Or ask for an invite and try it with ChatGPT.
